Other funds supporting Lebanon

Launched by: Facebook and ICFJ

Funding to date: USD 300,000

Aim

To assist in supporting local news outlets that have suffered damage to infrastructure and resources.

“The first phase of this program will involve identifying Lebanese news organizations and journalists in need of urgent financial support. Impacted journalists and news organizations will then be able to apply for immediate emergency relief grants. ICFJ will award grants to select Beirut-based news organizations and journalists that fulfill a set criteria.”

Speaking at a meeting of the Joint Coordination Mechanism, Ayman Mhanna, director of SKeyes, said that he believes that the two funds -- “Supporting Beirut: Response and Recovery Fund” launched by Facebook and ICFJ and the “Lebanon Media Recovery Fund” launched by SKeyes -- will be able to coordinate to avoid duplication.

Launched by: International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF)

Funding to date: $10,000

Aims

IWMF announced a contribution of $10,000 to assist Lebanon-based journalists who are in need, after the August 4 explosion in Beirut, and opened the possibility for individuals to donate to the Media Recovery Fund in honor of Lebanese journalist and IWMF board member Raghida Dergham.

" In honor of Advisory Council member Raghida Dergham, the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is pleased to announce a contribution of $10,000 to the Samir Kassir Foundation’s Lebanon Media Recovery Fund. As Lebanon rebuilds after an August 4 explosion in Beirut, these funds will provide emergency assistance to journalists in dire need of support".
